A Happier Thanksgiving for Omaha Families

OMAHA (KPTM)- Hundreds of families received free Thanksgiving meals Monday all over the metro.

For families with Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska, Monday was a day where they could start celebrating the holiday.

What's Thanksgiving without potatoes, cornbread, green beans, and of course, turkey?

"Happy we're going to have dinner for thanksgiving," said Anilu Escalante. Well, thanks to Lutheran Family Services and Alegent Creighton Health Immanuel Medical Center volunteers, Escalante and her family can have her first Thanksgiving, with all the fixings. "I would like to say thanks for giving me the turkey so I Can have dinner with my family and give thanks to God," said Escalante.

'Thank you' were the words on everyone's lips as volunteers spent hours loading up boxes and unloading turkeys. "One lady said, they usually just have chicken for Thanksgiving, so this is going to change their whole Thanksgiving," said one volunteer, John Determan.

Jessica Fernandez said her Thanksgiving will be the time to make sure her family knows how grateful she is. "My family changed me into a better person," said Fernandez.

It's a time for family, for food, and most of all, thanks.
