Arrests Made in Stolen Car Parts Scheme
OMAHA (KPTM)- Two have been arrested in connection with stolen car parts that turned up in Southwest Omaha.
46-year-old James Bergman and 59-year-old Jack Newman were taken into custody near 84th and Madison Tuesday.
Police say the investigation started in March after a man reported his truck stolen. The officers served a search warrant at a storage unit Tuesday. Police say at least one of the suspects was found in connection with the thefts.
"There was a short foot pursuit right over by Ralston earlier here. That was a party that left this area in a truck. We stopped the truck because it had stolen plates on it and the back of it's packed full of chopped up car parts," Officer Bill Fell said.
Last month an Omaha man was arrested in connection with stealing cars and then salvaging the pats.
Kevin Garbez was one of the victims. He built the truck on his own. It was stolen in Council Bluffs back in February. When he got it back, it was stripped. He now has a new set of wheels and has added new security features to prevent anyone else from stealing it.
