OMAHA (KPTM) - It's no secret that treating yourself to a cold one means a big boost to the economy, but a new report shows just how big the benefits are becoming.

"Craft beer has grown so phenomenally," said Kim Kavulak at the Nebraska Brewing Company.

A study by the Beer Institute indicates alcohol now generates more than $278 million for the Nebraska economy. In addition to that, more than 800 jobs have also been created because of beer and breweries.

"It helps the local communities," said Kavulak. "At our place we have hostesses, waitresses, etc."

In Iowa, the statistics are even more impressive. The National Beer Wholesalers Association says liquor sales generate more than $447 million for the state economy.
