Catholic Charities Celebrates Adoption Awareness Month

Omaha (KPTM)- The faces of the children are innocent. The gesture of adopting them is selfless. Facilitating an adoption is the goal. Catholic Charities have been assisting with adoptions since the late 1800's.

November is National Adoption Awareness Month.

For the past 13 years, St. John Vianney Parish in Omaha has celebrated Adoption Awareness Month with a specific mass for the families involved. Father Jim Keiter has said the mass 12 of the past 13 years.

He is a success story. He was adopted as a baby.

"At that time most of the adoptions were closed adoptions and so when I was born I was in the Saint James Orphanage which is now Catholic Charities," said Keiter.

Nearly 200 people who are linked to adoptions were at Sunday's mass.

Kim Grimit and her husband Nicholas have adopted their son Jackson.

"It's been the absolute best thing we've ever done. It's been an absolute joy," said Kim Grimit.

It's a sleepless decision for a mother who is thinking about giving up a baby.

"Certainly the largest percentage of the women who come seeking our help will make a decision to raiser their children and we have wonderful programs to help with that as well," said, Sue Malloy of Catholic Charities.

The Douglas County Courthouse plans to finalize several adoptions on November 23, 2013, which s National Adoption Awareness Day.
