Cox Classic Faces Possible Final Season

OMAHA-(KPTM)- The Cox Classic has been around since 1996. Bill Clinton was President, The Summer Olympics were held in Atlanta, and Champions Run was named the home of the tournament.

18 years later the run could end.

"We are in constant negotiations and talks across the board on everything," said Chad Mardesen, Tournament Director. "The future is somewhat uncertain, but we know Omaha deserves to have a big event. We are going to do all we can to make sure that this tournament survives."

All major sponsorship contracts, by design, expire after this year.

The Cox Classic will feature a kids clinic on Tuesday, a pro am on Wednesday and the first round, featuring 156 professional golfers, begins Thursday.

The total purse for the tournament is over $800,000.00. The winner will receive a record $144,000.00.
