Near YUTAN, Neb (KPTM) - Volunteer firefighters from several departments put out a large grass fire a couple of miles west of Yutan Sunday night.

Heavy wind gusts started hitting Omaha just before that, with a wind gust measured at just over 60 miles per hour by the National Weather Service.
Heavy winds were a problem most of the day for area firefighters called to several grass fires around Nebraska and Iowa.
The worst during the day was reported out of Battle Creek, Nebraska. Smoke from a large fire forced evacuations from the west side of that town.
