Got Your Six: Local Distillery Gives Back To Veterans

By: Melina MatthesMMatthes@kptm.comLA VISTA (kptm) - When you buy a bottle of booze from a local distillery you can do more than just have a few drinks. By buying a bottle at Patriarch Distillers you are also helping veterans. The award winning distillery in La Vista is doing more than just bottle liquor. They're helping soldiers and their families. Right now that help is for an extra special project helping vets who served in World War II. The owner said he wanted to give back to the community. That's why every bottle of bourbon, whiskey, and vodka they sell at Patriarch Distillers, a portion goes back to veterans and their families. "There are a lot of veterans out there and there are a lot of people that have been affected by the wars and I just think we can do a lot of good and I think there are a lot of people that fall through the cracks," owner of Patriarch Distillers, Jeff Hadden said. When he created the distillery he didn't just want to sell liquor. He wanted to help make a difference in the lives of those who fought for our freedom. To give back for their sacrifice, every bottle his distillery sells, one dollar does to a charity for veterans and their families. "It's just the right thing to do. Early on it's something that we talked about, it was important to us and now it's taken on a whole different meaning to us." Everything in the distillery shows their passion to help veterans. From the name of the whiskey, "Soldier Valley, True American," to the shape of the bottle, a canteen, to the dog tags and number sixa reminder that they've got your six. "We created this six with the stars to kind of be our symbol of what we're all about here. People that are involved with this, whether friends or familywe have each other's backs, we have each other's six and that's exactly what that stands for." Right now he said any money they collect is going to a fund to help fly World War II veterans back to Normandy for the 70th anniversary of D-day. "They're able to get back up into a C-47, which is the plane that a lot of them were either dropped as paratroopers or crossed the channel in, and them being able to see that and be part of that isseeing the smiles on their faces is amazing." And after D-day, they'll continue their goal of helping veterans and they're families. He said as long as they're open, they'll always have soldier's backs. "Whatever we can do is the right thing to do and I guess that's what we're here for." Now through the end of May, every bottle purchased from Patriarch Distillers well help a World War II vet get back to Normandy.
