OMAHA (KPTM)- Just because the city is growing, doesn't necessarily mean businesses can. At least that is the case for the King Kong restaurant on 42nd and Dodge.
"I will bring in more taxes for the city if I build a new, bigger building," said Nick Triantafillou, King Kong Owner.
He wants to expand the restaurant's building from a capacity of 40 to 80 customers.
A city ordinance that went into effect in January, 2012 prohibits his construction unless he agrees to have only one driveway. The lot now has two.
"It's a safety issue," said City Engineer Todd Pfitzer. "It is a proven fact that the more driveways you have in and out of small lots like this one, the more accidents occur."
A zoning board of appeals is expected to rule on giving the restaurant a waiver from the ordinance on February 24.
