Man Uses Social Media to Search for Missing Uncle

COUNCIL BLUFFS(KPTM)-Each Facebook share gives Justin Wathen of Council Bluffs hope that someone out there can help him find his missing uncle. 50 year-old Ron Price was last seen at his apartment complex near 103rd and Hamilton in Omaha on October 15th. His family has been putting up flyers and using social media in search of leads ever since.

"There were some eyewitnesses that said they saw him with some papers or something in his hand and it was one of the weeks it was cold and rainy and all he had on was a t-shirt and shorts and we haven't seen or heard from him since," said Wathen, who is not alone in utilizing facebook to search for the missing.

"To reach out to the public, the FBI needs to know where the people are and tens of millions spend their time in social media," said Sandra Breault of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Breault added that digital billboards are another tool law enforcement uses to search for missing persons and also to seek out help locating fugitives on the loose by getting their photos out there.

Omaha Police Officer James Shade says even a simple tweet can be an important tool. "Social media is an instant way for the police department to access the citizens of Omaha and let them know 'here's what's going on, we need your help in this case,'" said Shade.

But even photos of the missing shared dozens or hundreds of times by law enforcement and civilians doesn't guarantee the right person will see the post. But Wathen says he's pinning his hopes on the Facebook push to help him find the uncle he loves and misses. " We just kind of want some closure one way or another. We hope for the best , obviously, but I think we've all prepared for the worst," said Wathen.

Ron Price is described as 5'6" tall, weighing about 135 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

If you've seen or heard from Price, contact police.
