OMAHA (KPTM) - Offutt Air Force Base welcomed a new forensics lab Monday at a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The 23,000 square foot facility will help identify missing deceased members of the military. The lab is equipped with large rooms that will help test the DNA of human remains. Offutt officials say the new addition was more than two years in the making. Families who have lost loved ones in the line of duty say the new lab is important to have.
"I'm sure this will be a big help and will definitely be a big plus for family members who still have someone missing," said Shirley Haase, who is a supporter of the new facility.
Offutt's forensics lab was modeled after a similar facility based in Hawaii.
