COUNCIL BLUFFS (KPTM)- People getting evicted from Wooded Lake Mobile Home Park in Council Bluffs are dealing with another headache. Firefighters are investigating a possible arson.
The fire at an abandoned mobile home has been the talk of the park. For next-door neighbor Bobbi Jo Christo, the fire spread on her property. Damaging her shed and completely destroying her boat.
"We just bought it seven weeks ago. It's been on the water twice," explained Christo.
And a damaged shed causes concern.
"Now we've got to worry about people stealing our stuff from that hole," she said.
Police say they don't know whether the cause of the fire was an accident or arson. But what neighbors believe is someone did this on purpose and for a specific reason.
"That was an empty trailer, it had to have been arson. Had to have, somebody had to have started it. It could have been teenagers with too much time on their hands," said Christo.
Christo and other residents say they've been receiving threats ever since they received the news that the park was closing, forcing them to be evicted by November 30th. She thinks the fire has something to do with those threats. But even though no one was hurt, she says the fire couldn't have come at a more inconvenient time.
"As if it isn't bad enough, somebody does this, thinking it's funny? Because it's not," said Christo.
And neighbors say they're scared their home could be next.
