Proposed Rail Line Would Connect Bellevue to North Omaha

OMAHA (KPTM)- A proposed above ground subway system would connect Bellevue to North Omaha.

The rail line would be 20 miles long, and use an existing, but vacant, rail road track.

The non-profit group, Emerging Terrain, proposed the idea. According to planners, it would create 9,000 jobs, take ten to fifteen years to complete, and cost tens of millions of dollars.

Planners told Fox 42, if the city approves the line, the first step would be to rezone the area. Then, they said, they'd focus on the three-and-a-half mile part from 40th and Lake to the Veterans Hospital.
