OMAHA (KPTM) - Slushy streets made for an interesting commute Thursday for some metro area drivers.
"Depending on how thick it is the slush can actually grab you and make you hydroplane," said Mark Dunwoody, a body shop manager.
Collision centers metrowide saw an increase in business by early afternoon. The mixture of rain and snow turned out to be problematic for people unaware of its true power.
"When we have a weather event like today there's always a sense that it's not as bad as it looks," said Dunwoody.
Perhaps even more dangerous than the slush itself is snowpack. That's because experts tell us if it were to get wedged in your tires it could throw them off balance.
"In a heavy snowpack situation, sometimes snow will actually get packed on the inside of the wheel."
And that could make it difficult to near impossible for you to steer your 2,000 pound plus car.
"Anytime your front wheels are shaking like that it could potentially become a control issue."
Something to keep in mind when the next snowstorm hits.
