Still No Councilperson For Bellevue's Ward One

OMAHA (KPTM) - It could be at least five weeks before the City of Bellevue gets a ward one councilperson.

A resolution calling for a special election to fill the seat was removed from the council's agenda Monday. Mayor Rita Sanders tells us more time is needed before it can actually appear on the list. The mayor had asked the council to approve one of her nominees at a previous meeting, but three councilmembers declined because they favored somebody else.

"It's frustrating because we've got work to do," said Sanders. "We talked earlier about opening up Haworth Park. That's something we need to start planning and organizing to make sure it happens."

Bellevue's ward one has been without a representative since Scott Houghtaling stepped down earlier this year. Mayor Sanders tells us the council may revisit the issue at a May 13th meeting.
