Valentine's Day Means Big Business for Omaha Florists
OMAHA(KPTM)- If you celebrate Valentine's Day with flowers, you're in good company. According to the The National Retail Federation, 233 million roses were sold on the holiday last year. For Piccolo's Florist, the holiday means it'll do seven to eight times the normal amount of deliveries making the holiday one of its busiest for those who create the arrangements and for those who transport them.
Mark Pitt has a passion for perfection and when Valentine's Day comes around, only the best flowers make the cut and that means a lot of pressure. "Anything can happen. A truck can break down. It can snow. You can get frozen flowers coming in from Florida where we get them so it's one of those days where you are keeping the plates spinning," said Pitt.
Within the next 24 hours, drivers will deliver more than 700 arrangements for Piccolo's, that means a lot is riding on them too. "The biggest risk is with the driver, so that driver has got to drive very, very smoothly," said Pitt.
Pitt says the average he sees spent at the shop on Valentine's day is about $85.00 and with thousands of arrangements sent out this week, he says the holiday definitely pays off.
