Volunteers Go Door to Door to Spread Fire Prevention Tips

OMAHA (KPTM)- More than 100 volunteers battled the cold Sunday to spread the word about fire prevention.

Hope World Wide volunteers partnered with the Omaha Fire Department. They handed out flyers to people who live in high risk fire neighborhoods.

Volunteers said it was great way to serve the community in the spirit of Martin Luther King Junior Day.

Monday the Red Cross planned similar efforts. In the past ten years, 233 fires happened in high-risk neighborhoods in Council BLuffs. Three of those fires resulted in a fatality and eleven people were injured enough to be hospitalized. Red Cross volunteers will go door-to-door talking to people about how to prevent home fires and how to escape safely should a fire occur.
