OMAHA (KPTM) - Shampooing. Styling. For many women, the hair salon is their Zen. It is a place of no harm. But images of broken glass shattered that feeling for Becky Kahn on Monday morning.
"You don't want to go in because you don't know if someone is still in there or not," Kahn explained.
The salon's manager said she came into Garbo's Salon and Spa at 138th and Maple streets and found the back glass door broken, cash register ripped from the wall and emptied.
The money stolen was charity for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
"They're losers and victims too because all their money got taken and now it's not going to benefit the cancer research," Kahn said.
Garbo's was not the only salon involved in a burglary.
The owner Ann's Kutting Kompany on 50th and Center an armed man "no" when he demanded cash last Friday.
"As long as that gun was on the way to his side I couldn't see any reason to be afraid of it," Ann Smock explained why she pushed the man. "He wasn't forcing the gun at me."
She plans to take safety precautions just in case a burglary attempt happens again.
"Take a gun class and I'm going to--and I'm going to maybe lock the door from now on a little more--a little sooner."
Kahn plans to do the same.
"We're currently looking into classes that we can take about how to be better prepared in these situations," she continued. "What to do, what to look for."
The salon also won't leave cash in the registers overnight anymore.
