Becka's Beat: Good Parents Bad Tragedy

Years ago a friend of mine lost his baby son to natural causes. I was a pallbearer for his son's funeral. It was one of the saddest days of my life. It is sad when anyone loses a family member or a friend. It's especially sad when that person is a child.

Last night a local family lost their child to a tragedy at disneyworld. Compound their sadness with the fact that there are trolls on social media who have never met him calling the dad a bad father. Let me tell you what a bad father is

A bad father is a person who knocks up his girlfriend and then leaves town. A bad father is a man who leaves his child in a hot car while he goes into a casino. A bad father comes home drunk and passes out on the couch instead of going to watch or coach his kids little league game.

I don't know this family, but i do know this. This man is not a bad father. A bad father doesn't take his family to disney world. A bad father doesn't stand next to his child as he goes near the water. A bad father doesn't try to fight off an aligator that has just grabbed his son. This man is a wonderful father. A great dad. The world would be a much better place if all fathers were like him.

This child wasn't standing in the middle of the everglades. This child was at the happiest place on earth. This family was at an expensive resort for movie night waiting for the fireworks to go off. It was supposed to be a wonderful memory instead it turned into the most horrific night imaginable.

Shame on those of you who wanted to blame the parents. Shame on you. If you criticizing these people makes you feel better about yourself take a look into your soul and ask why that is.

To say thoughts and prayers go out to this family sounds a little trite. But sometimes you don't know what else to say. My thoughts and prayers do go out to this family. This great family that has suffered what nobody should have to endure.
