August 2017 Jefferson Award winner: Amanda Stevenson
OMAHA, Neb(FOX42KPTM)-A woman from Iowa moved to Omaha years ago. She says she knew she wanted to make a difference in the community.
This month's Jefferson Award winner is Amanda Stevenson. In 2015, she started Omaha Children's Choir.
"I feel that it's so important to make sure music is accessible to all," Amanda Stevenson said. She believes in helping children find their voice.
"I am a firm believer that every single child has the ability to sing," she said.
The children are all quite unique, from small to tall.
"I'm really honored to be able to work with so many children from so many backgrounds," she said.
"Any child that wants to sing has a place so we don't turn any children away."
Stevenson has several other jobs outside of the choir. However, she says the choir is above all.
"My focus is the children's choir and that's where my passion is and that's my number one priority," she said.
Stevenson keeps in touch with all the children outside of rehearsal. She attends some of their school assemblies too.
"It's really amazing to see the progress that these children make every year."
She says she doesn't consider this as a job, but a blessing instead.
