Benson JROTC holds annual domestic violence walk
OMAHA, Neb. —
Students took a stand against domestic violence at Benson High School Friday afternoon
The Junior ROTC squad at Benson had its annual domestic violence walk.
It was in in memory of a student that was killed back in 2012 during a domestic incident.
Dozens of students joined in the one-mile walk around the school track.
The hope for this year’s theme of “Stop the violence. End the silence.” is that it will start a conversation about domestic violence and not make it a taboo subject to bring up if someone needs help.
"If this is something that's happening to them or to a friend, I want them to be comfortable speaking about it rather than saying a statistic and not doing anything about it," Marian Vinderslee said.
Many Benson students also signed pledges against domestic violence.
