OMAHA, Neb. (KPTM) - Police say an 18-month old girl is now in the hospital after being shot in the face.

Neighbors say this isn't something they ever expected to happen in their apartment complex.

"I would be hurt, going crazy,” said Mary Mitchell, just moved to the area.

That is how several neighbors say they felt after an 18-month-old girl was shot in the face

It really hit home for one parent.

Jessie Stewart said,"I have kids of my own so it’s kind of upsetting to hear."

It happened inside the Pine Tree Apartments near North 104th and Hamilton plazas.

Many say it doesn't make any sense

“This is an unfortunate thing to have happened," says Stewart

Police say the girl was taken to the hospital by someone else, rather than in an ambulance.

Some neighbors asked where her parents were, and others say the story isn't adding up.

"This area is not real rowdy,” Nakecia Johnson said. “It's a lot of kids in this area so to hear a kid got shot was real shocking"

“I think it was an incident. Accidents happen all the time.”
