City introduces 2 new places to recycle glass

The latest is at 178th and Pacific streets, and the other is near 149th and Evans Plaza.

The mayor and others announced Thursday morning two new glass recycling drop off points.

The latest is at 178th and Pacific streets, and the other is near 149th and Evans Plaza.

The city doesn't take glass with the recycling during curb-side pickup.

The glass that is collected stays out of our landfills and, since it's glass, can easily be re-used.

"You're taking a material and thinking about it as a full loop," said Chris Stratman of Keep Omaha Beautiful. "Not only are we using it and producing it but thinking about how to reuse it in the future and that's important that's, in essence, a wise use of resources and good environmental stewardship."

Glass collected will be sent to Kansas City where much of it will be re-made into fiberglass insulation.
