Inmate charged after cellmate dies at Tecumseh jail
UPDATE: An inmate has been charged in the death of an inmate at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution.
On Friday, an autopsy was conducted, and 39-year-old Patrick Schroeder was charged with first-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.
Following an investigation conducted by the Nebraska State Patrol with assistance from the Nebraska Department of Corrections, the cause of death is ruled asphyxia due to compression of the neck structures.
The manner of death is homicide.
Berry and Schroeder were the only occupants in a cell at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institute.
Schroeder is expected to appear in Johnson County Court on May 3.
LINCOLN, Ne (FOX42KPTM)- The Nebraska State Patrol has opened a criminal investigation into the death of an inmate at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution.
Officials say Terry Berry will be removed from life support after being taken to a Lincoln hospital last weekend. Officials say doctors declared him brain dead on Monday and that his family is making the decision to remove him from life support.
Berry was found unresponsive in his cell last Saturday.
