Drunk driving on St. Patrick's Day, La Vista police officer makes arrest
LA VISTA, Ne (FOX42KPTM) —
Omaha police reported a lot of drunk drivers Friday thanks to St. Patrick's Day parties and bar hopping.
For the day, FOX 42 accompanied a La Vista police officer who got a call just before the ride was over.
It ended up being a drunk driver who rear-ended someone.
Instead of celebrating the holiday, he was taken to the Sarpy County Jail.
"Based on what he's saying he was drinking earlier today," Officer Amanda Eby said. “He had some alcohol in his system and so what we're going to do is put him through the field sobriety maneuvers to make sure that he's okay to drive."
Eby made the driver complete a series of sobriety tests. Then, it was time for the breathalyzer.
The man’s blood alcohol level was .142 meaning a DUI, jail time and the possibility of having his license taken away.
Eby said, "It's not worth your time. It's not worth other people's lives."
