South Sioux City grain elevator pulled down; residents allowed back in their homes
A South Sioux City grain elevator heavily damaged by an explosion has finally come tumbling down.
More than 13 days after the initial explosion forced dozens of South Sioux City residents from their homes, that heavily damaged Anderson Farms grain elevator is finally down.
Demolition crews tied a 4th cable to the top of the facility late this afternoon and attached it to an excavator, in an attempt to pull it over to one side.
The top half of the elevator came down a little after 6 p.m. Monday.
With the most dangerous part of the demolition done the evacuation order will be lifted and residents can begin coming home.
Gas service will be restored to those homes on Tuesday.
