Grand Jury to be convened over Taser-related death
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Neb(FOX 42 KPTM)-- Douglas county plans to convene a grand jury over the Taser-related death of Zachary Bearheels.
County attorney Don Kleine announced in July the two, now fired, Omaha police officers would be charged in Bearheels death.
Officer Scotty Payne is charged with second degree felony assault and Officer Ryan McClarty was cited for third degree assault.
On Thursday Judge Duane Dougherty directed a grand jury look into what happened on June 5, 2017.
Investigators say the officers Tased Bearheels at the Bucky's near 60th and Center. He died the next day.
According to the coroner's report, the stun gun was not the sole cause of death.
It determined the physical struggle and physical restraint also lead to Bearheels death.
A special prosecutor has been ordered.
