Christ Community Church sends Rapid Response Team to Texas
OMAHA, Neb. (FOX42KPTM) —
A team of 16 people from an Omaha church is leaving Thursday morning to aid those affected by Hurricane Harvey.
Christ Community Church is sending an Omaha Rapid Response Team to Texas.
They have been doing this for 17 years. Their first response after one year of training was 9/11.
The team says after helping in 30 different countries, it's just as important to help those back home.
"When things like this happen, it just seems like it's more crushing to people, especially the victims directly and their families,” said Ken Gruber, president of the Omaha Rapid Response Team. “So when you step in there and you try to bring a little love and light into the situation, you see a transformation there, you see hearts open up and minds open up."
The team will be in Texas for ten days doing everything from helping people clean out their flooded homes to providing emotional support.
