Local middle school students honor victims of Parkland school shooting
Local middle school students came up with an idea to honor the victims of the school shooting in Parkland, Florida.
This week, Buffett Middle School students have been tying ribbons to the fence by the track to honor the victims of the shooting that took place at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in February.
Eighth grader Payton Royal wanted to do something, so she got permission from the school and planned the ribbon tying for her classmates.
"It feels amazing," she said. "It took so long to finally get this together, and now that it is, it's so cool to see all these kids out here actually tying their ribbons and participating and learning about these victims and what it means to actually make sure these people aren't forgotten. "
More than 300 middle school students took part in the ribbon tying event.
