Man catches someone stealing signs from his front yard

OMAHA,NE(FOX42KPTM)-Neighbors in one Omaha neighborhood are now questioning why someone would steal signs from their yards.

"What would motivate someone to stop their vehicle, get out and take a sign and put it in the bed of their truck," says Brian Michaelis. He lives in Maple Village in northwest Omaha.

He caught a man taking a sign from his front yard. The sign is not anything you would think someone would want. It bears the name of a contractor whose worked on Michaelis home plenty of times.

"I thought at first it was another contractor."

He says it was not, other neighbors were part of the weird theft too.

"I talked to another person in the neighborhood that had another sign stolen and it was completely different it wasn't even a contractor at all."

He says he thought the city had someone to come out and remove it.

"It does appear if the sign is somewhere between the street and the sidewalk in that little lawn area, that it's illegal..my signs were actually in my yard."

Michaelis admits it may be "just a sign", but it raises other questions too.

"It's kind of annoying that something in my yard is being stolen when it's on my property."

Now he wonders if he can put anything in his yard and expect it to stay there.

"It's kind of annoying that something in my yard is being stolen when it's on my property."

"Stealing a pack of gum from the grocery store is the same thing as stealing something that's a lot more expensive so stealing is stealing where it's a sign or my planners or breaking into my truck."
