Man honored for dedication to finding cure for Alzheimer's

Marvin Welstead received the Nebraska Medical Center Community Service to Research award.

The Nebraska Medical Center honored a man who has devoted his life to finding a cure for Alzheimer's Disease.

Marvin Welstead received the Nebraska Medical Center Community Service to Research award.

The 97-year-old from Fremont taught himself everything he knows by reading books and research papers.

His wife passed away in 2009 from Alzheimer's.

Welstead says he hopes people will continue his research.

"My hope is that we can develop a relationship with the patients on learning the benefits of research," he said.

This year's Fremont Alzheimer's memory walk is set for late September.
