Nebraska football team gearing up to play Oregon
LINCOLN, Ne (FOX42KPTM) - When you're a two touchdown underdog to your opponent, it's easy to get fired up.
"We've been studying and studying and studying," said Freedom Akinmoladun, a defensive lineman. "That's the main thing coach is emphasizing."
After a nail-biting victory over Arkansas State, the Huskers are looking forward to prove they can perform at an elite level. The first test comes this Saturday against Oregon.
"We're going to get there when we get there and and when it's time to play we'll be ready," said Deontre Thomas, a defensive tackle.
The offense is certainly confident going into the game. Quarterback Tanner Lee threw two touchdown passes and racked up 238 yards passing against Arkansas State. That's among the best for a Nebraska quarterback making his debut.
"I was just excited to get out there and make some plays and move the ball," said Lee.
The defense will need some work. Coordinator Bob Diaco admitted Monday there were bumps in the road this past weekend. He's now counting on the experience of a close game to benefit the team. The student athletes are also counting on it.
"We have to stay focused," said Akinmoladun.
Oregon might not be the the only opponent for the Huskers this Saturday. Wildfires could also be a factor. There's a chance the game time could be adjusted. Oregon is currently working with an air protection agency to determine if any changes need to be made.
