Couple writes book about popular places to go in Omaha
OMAHA,Neb(FOX42KPTM)-A new book calls Omaha the best-kept secret in the United States.
It's called " 100 Things to Do In Omaha Before You Die,” and it lists a number of places to go and where to eat in Omaha
"There's great food here, there's great culture here, there's great history here," Tim and Lisa Trudell said. They are authors of the book.
"It can help you identify some of the major attractions and some of the lesser known attractions that people don't really flock to."
Trudell says there are a lot of places in Omaha that people just don't know about
"People don't think of Omaha as a place to come to for vacations."
FOX 42’s Winnie Dortch decided to take a drive around town to hit up some on those places listed in the book.
She stopped at Mamas Pizza, Omaha Steaks, Jones Brothers Cupcakes, The Escape Omaha, Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, Dundee Theater, and Great Plains Black History Museum.
"It's neat to hear people be surprised by what they see in Omaha, what they learn about Omaha when they visit and then they go away thinking we're not a cow town."
There's even an African American leader who was born in the heart of Omaha.
"Malcolm X is from Omaha, and the state has a historical marker to note where he lived."
Trudell says it will take more than a day to visit every place in the book, but it's all worth it."
"We hope that this is a launching pad for people to really go out and explore and find more about Omaha."
