Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium and Wildlife Safari Park will be hosting a three-day adult photography class with nature photographer Pat Mingarelli on Oct. 26, 27 and 28.

The classes are for anyone aged 18 and older.

On Oct. 26 and Oct. 27, class will take place at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The workshop’s final day on Oct. 28 will be held at the Wildlife Safari Park from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

Attendees will gain early access to the Zoo and Wildlife Safari Park for the chance to get the best shots of their favorite animals.

Mingarelli will instruct the photographers on how to take photos in the Suzanne and Walter Scott Aquarium and other popular areas on Zoo grounds, as well as work with common obstacles while photographing wildlife.

Throughout the workshop, Mingarelli will critique photos to help students improve on their craft.

After graduating with a degree in photojournalism from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, Mingarelli began his professional photography career in Tiffin, Ohio with the Advertiser-Tribune newspaper where he focused on capturing the many aspects of life in a small Midwestern town.

Following his time at the Advertiser-Tribune, Mingarelli worked at Worldwide Challenge magazine for 11 years.

In that role, he had photo assignments in seven different countries and 24 different states.

Mingarelli left the magazine to start Wildheart Photography, which includes high-quality nature photography as well as real estate, sports, portraits and journalism photos.

Mingarelli’s photos have been published in dozens of publications, including Wildlife Conservation, Nebraska Life, NEBRASKAland, USAtoday.com and Maximum Outdoors.

In addition to his photography business, Mingarelli also teaches photography classes at Iowa Western Community College and Metropolitan Community College.

The registration fee for the three-day workshop is $70 for Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium members and $80 for non-members.
