Property valuations for Douglas County approved
OMAHA, Ne (FOX42KPTM) - Property valuations for Douglas County have been approved by the state of Nebraska following an uproar earlier this year.
Assessor-Register of Deeds Diane Battiato received a lot of complaints since initial evaluations for 2017 were posted in January. She explained that her office was catching up with a hot real estate market and with properties that hadn't been reassessed in several years.
Last month, she sent out lowered figures to the state Tax Equalization and Review Commission, aiming at a median value of 93 percent of market value, within the 92 to 100 percent range as required by the state.
The commission has now approved those figures, which property owners will be able to protest after they receive notices from the county. Those notices must be mailed on or before June 1st.
