Red Cross asks for rare donations
American Red Cross is always in need of blood but now the organization said they are desperate.
It started a new campaign Monday called "Missing Types."
The Red Cross will always accept healthy donations but it is specifically asking for O Negative right now.
This type is a universal blood type which means it can be transfused safely into anyone who needs it.
Plasma and platelets are also needed.
One volunteer and donor now donates as much platelets as she can as often as she can.
The Red Cross "Missing Types" Campaign started Monday and goes through July 3rd.
Red Cross spokesperson also said donation numbers go down substantially during the summer.
