Sarpy county officials report a number of car break-ins in Chalco Hills

OMAHA,NE(FOX42KPTM)-You park your car in your driveway, thinking it's safe, but families in one neighborhood are now learning, that's not the case anymore.

"I saw some kids going by at 2:30 in the morning, which is kind of unusual to have people roaming that time of morning,” said Adam Ferguson.

His video has caught the attention of an entire neighborhood.

"They're just trying to see if cars are unlocked that they can get into," Ferguson said.

The video from early Tuesday morning shows men running to every car and pulling the door handles near 155th Avenue and Greenleaf Street.

"It's concerning to see, disrespect for people's property," Ferguson said.

He says the outrage is over more than just theft.

A woman made a post to their neighborhood's Nextdoor app the following day.

"They took property from our car and what the sheriff said they stuffed it in our neighbor's tailpipes."

Ferguson says what's more upsetting is how often weird things happen around here.

"I regularly check my cameras just to make sure nothing is going on,” he said. “There's been a number of times I’ve seen that happen in this neighborhood.”

Ferguson’s advice to others is simple.

"Just lock your cars,” he said.

A sergeant with Sarpy County tells us several thefts have been reported in this area.

He says even if your door is locked, it's important to not leave any valuables in sight.
