Setup for the College World Series is currently in progress
OMAHA, Ne (FOX42KPTM) - The College World Series is about to return to Omaha. The tournament begins next week, but setup is already happening.
The barriers are out, the tents are up and the banners are flying high.
"It's a blast," said Rich Tokheim, a College World Series fan. "It's just like a holiday seeing everybody."
Last year's CWS was a big hit. In fact, it was such a big hit that when more than 357,000 people came to Omaha for the event the NCAA declared it a tournament record.
"It's neat to just walk around," said Shannon Alberg, who has experienced the College World Series.
Alberg said a lot has changed since the old Rosenblatt days.
"It's great to see how they revamped it."
Across the street from TD Ameritrade Park, the site for the College World Series, CWS memorabilia is being sold. A lot of people around there have favorite tournament memories.
"Back when Fresno won it we bought a bulldog," said Tokheim. "We got excited about the Fresno State Bulldogs. We hadn't had a dog in our family in like ten years."
Tokheim is looking forward to more history being made at the CWS.
"I always say it's like Christmas in June."
Opening Celebration Day is on Friday, June 15th. Fan Fest will also take over north downtown Omaha. With that in mind, a portion of Mike Fahey Street between 10th and 12th Streets will shut down. That closing starts this Sunday and will last through June 28th.
