Shelter pup gets to be K9 for a day

La Vista police teamed up with Nebraska Humane Society to let a shelter pup become a K9 officer for a day.

LA VISTA, Neb(FOX 42 KPTM)-- La Vista's police force is teaming up with the Nebraska Humane Society to help shelter dogs experience the life of a hero for a day.

It all started Wednesday morning when Mickey was introduced to Officer Nick Jeanette, his partner for the day.

The pair said some quick hellos then hit the street for a day full of patrolling.

The goal is to get the pups socialized, but also to spread awareness for the importance of adoption.

Along the way, Officer Jeanette handed out "fun facts" about Mickey.

After a few hours the pair headed back to the shelter.

Now NHS says Mickey is eagerly awaiting his next adventure-- a new home.

La Vista officers say they'll be doing this with more dogs on a regular basis.

Mickey is available for adoption here. NHS says he needs a big yard with a very tall fence in his new hom.
