State wrestling tourney underway at CenturyLink
OMAHA, Neb. (FOX42KPTM) —For Nicholas Stoltenberg, it's a dream come true.
"It means everything. I've been working at it my whole life," said Stoltenberg.
At this year's Nebraska wrestling tournament at the CenturyLink Center, the Skutt Catholic freshman's hard work is paying off.
Stoltenberg wasn't alone. His teammates were also bringing in wins on Thursday.
"I'm the only one on the team that's a returning state champ, so I know what it takes," said Korbin Meink, a wrestler for Skutt Catholic.
As 2016 Class B champions, the team has a title to defend.
Thursday is just the first day of the tournament, drawing schools from all across the state.
Each one is accompanied by its proud parents, cheering sections and busy coaches.
"Every year there are more and more people coming. Last year was like the biggest crowd I've ever wrestled under, and this year I'm excited to see how it is," said Meink.
For the wrestlers waiting to battle, it really comes down to what happens on the mats.
"Just look at one match at a time and I don't really care who it is. I just go out there and win," said Stoltenberg.
Teams will be competing through Saturday, when it all comes down to the finals.
