A former candidate for mayor of Omaha announced his candidacy for state treasurer Thursday.

Taylor Royal pointed to his experience as a certified public accountant and financial representative as qualifications that are well suited for the State Treasurer’s office.

He also stated his "conservative credentials" as being 100 percent pro-life, a member of the NRA, belief in strong families and protecting our borders.

Royal named four priorities he wants to accomplish as state treasurer:

  1. Steward Nebraska tax dollars
  2. Work hard to make our State’s 529 plans one of the best in country
  3. Travel Nebraska and teach youth good financial habits
  4. Advocate for the Nebraska taxpayer

Royal is a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Finance and Accounting, earned a master's degree at Southern Methodist University and worked in Dallas at Deloitte Tax LLP before returning to Nebraska to work at Northwestern Mutual.

At an announcement at the UNO Thompson Alumni Center, Marty Jaramillo of the Nebraska Patriots for Trump and Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert endorsed Royal’s candidacy.
