Claudia Wylie is Jefferson Award winner for month of June

PLATTSMOUTH, Ne (FOX42KPTM) - The manager of a Plattsmouth thrift store serving people in need is the Jefferson Award winner for the month of June. Each month, FOX 42 News and Nebraska Medicine give this award to an outstanding member of our community, and June's winner is Claudia Wylie.

    "This is great," said Wylie.

Wylie told FOX 42 News putting others before herself is her passion. At Under His Wings Thrift Shop, there's a little something for everyone from books to clothes to household items. What you see in there has been donated by people who want to give back to their community. This is how Wylie helps people struggling to scrape by.

"When you have the vision and you know it's the right thing and the items are needed in this area, I just knew it would fall all together," said Wylie.

What started out as a place for baby clothes and diapers expanded into the current shop four years ago. It's an entire thrift store designed to help people with specific needs.

"The people knew that we're going to give our money back to the community and they give us good items to sell."

Wylie also helps people pay their utility bills. She says it can be a lifeline for families who have trouble making ends meet.

"They call and make an appointment and we get together with them and we help."

For her work, Wylie is now our Jefferson Award winner for the month of June. That honor includes a certificate, a button and a medal.

After receiving the award this month, Wylie made sure to give a shootout to the people she works with.

"It's just amazing that the folks have stepped up to help us."
