BELLEVUE, Neb. (FOX42KPTM) — A local senator is now helping military families by giving children the supplies they need to start the school year off right.
More than 150 backpacks filled with everything from notebooks and folders to crayons and water bottles were given to Bellevue military families.
The Office Depot Foundation donated the backpacks, and Nebraska State Sen. Carol Blood raised $1,500 for the supplies.
"Military families are so often are relocated over, and over, and over again,” Blood said. “The one thing we want them to remember about this area is that they were welcomed and they were appreciated. As I said before they also serve and there is really not enough we can do for these military families."
Blood hopes to make this a yearly event.
