Cops and Bobbers event brings together children and law enforcement

Children in Omaha got the chance to go fishing with a cop Sunday.

The 8th annual Cops and Bobbers event was held at Benson Park.

Omaha police got the chance to teach children a little bit about how to fish.

However, officers say the fish weren't really biting.

Police say this event gives them a chance to interact with the children and show them that officers are just like regular people.

"It's an opportunity for us to meet with the kids," Deputy Chief Scott Gray said. "It's for the kids to meet officers that work in their neighborhood. Just get to know each other in a fun atmosphere, and hopefully, catch some fish."

After they fished, the children got to take their fishing poles home with them.
