Elderly man rescued from 'extremely dangerous situation' in Nebraska cornfield

With the help of thermal vision, an elderly man was rescued after the Nebraska State Patrol said he disappeared in Merrick County Tuesday morning.

The NSP said he wandered into a cornfield after disappearing, which "is an extremely dangerous situation" given the hot weather.

Troopers and sheriff's deputies on the ground started the search, but the NSP helicopter played a crucial role.

"As you can see in the video [above], even from the air it's nearly impossible to see someone in the corn. But thermal vision makes it possible," the NSP said.

Pilots guided troops on the ground to exactly where the man was and found him safely.
