Family members mourn the death of 21-year old Kayviaun Nelson

OMAHA,Neb(FOX42KPTM)-Family and friends of 21-year-old Kayviaun Nelson are in disbelief and shock.

"They are causing this family to suffer, to be away from someone that was so young, so full of life, so full of promises," Charles Nelson said. He's Kayviaun's father.

Omaha police say Nelson was inside her car when she was shot. It happened in the parking lot of the Walmart on 99th Street on Wednesday afternoon. It caused her to crash into another car. She died at the hospital later that night.

"My heart like dropped, it's still unbelievable, it came out of no where," Miesha Adams said. She's Kayviaun's godmother.

Thursday afternoon, police arrested Daion Williams on 1st Degree Murder charges. They are currently looking for a second person, Marcus Wheeler.

"These perpetrators they need to be served the justice that's due unto them," Nelson said.

Nelson was a 2014 Omaha Northwest High School graduate. She leaves behind two young boys, two-year-old Mykell Dupree and four-month-old Malachi Lamar Charles Nelson.

"They're young and just don't understand what's going on, but when that time come we will have to explain it to them," Adams said.

Nelson's best friend, Liya Vaughan, is feeling that pain from a thousand miles away in Houston.

"She was like my sister so it kind of broke my heart . I just wish that she wasn't gone so soon because now what about her kids. Her kids are going to grow up without their mom and that's not Okay," Vaughan said.

"My next step is to make it big for my sister, all the positive stuff that's going to be happening in my life it's just going to be because of her, she's going be that guardian angel watching over me."

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of $5,000 for tips that lead to Wheeler's location and arrest.

A prayer walk will be held for Kayviaun Nelson at 5:30 p.m. in the Walmart parking lot on Friday.
