Neighbor calls 911 when Dundee home catches fire

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

A house near 51st and Davenport streets caught fire Tuesday evening.

A neighbor called 911 shortly before 5:30.

When crews got there, they found heavy fire and smoke coming out of the front of the house.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire.

Officials say the fire was caused by "careless" disposal of smoking material in the second floor bedroom.

The house is more than 100 years old, and the fire chief says with old houses, the fire can spread throughout the house quickly if it gets to the walls.

The home suffered a lot of smoke and water damage after crews sprayed it down.
