Google's 'Made with Code' program visits Council Bluffs to inspire girls to code

Google is teaming up with Disney and Iowa State Senator Dan Dawson to get local girls from Council Bluffs Community School District excited about coding.

Google’s Made with Code Program is coming to Council Bluffs for a one-day coding event and viewing party at AMC Council Bluffs 17.

The event is being hosted to help drive girls into the tech industry and inspire young women to view coding as a means to pursue their dreams.

Google says that few female college freshmen plan to major in Computer Science. Google’s Made With Code program is designed to change this and the Council Bluffs event is focused on driving that change in the region.

The event was held Thursday afternoon.

It kicked off with a welcome and opening remarks from Iowa State Senator Dawson.

Google says the students will then participate in a coding activity where they will have the opportunity to work alongside the Google team to learn basic coding skills and create their own “practically perfect” animated snowflake pattern with graphics from Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns.

At the conclusion of the coding activity, students will be treated to a free screening of Mary Poppins Returns.
