Iowa Congressman trying to change the Veterans Administration Hotline
Iowa Congressman David Young is pressuring the Veterans Administration to ensure that no call to the crisis hotline go unanswered.
On Wednesday, his campaign held another letter writing campaign calling on the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to investigate this issue.
One veteran who wrote several letters says he thankful he hasn't needed to call the crisis line.
But he is disappointed the issue hasn't improved.
"The VA is a government agency. It is our bureaucracy. Even though there are a lot of VA people who are excellent people and want to serve veterans. I'm very concerned about veterans in a bureaucracy if things fall through the cracks," said John Strong, a U.S. Army Veteran.
Young is pushing for a bill that would change how the V.A. handles its crisis hotline.
He says that all calls should be answered no matter what.
