Local teacher wins national award for innovative teaching
OMAHA, Neb. (FOX42KPTM) —
Five teachers across the country were awarded $5,000 each for creative and innovative teaching, and one of them was here in Omaha.
Michelle Scheet of Saddlebrook Elementary School was our local winner.
She was awarded for her creative approach to bringing math and science to students in a way they can truly feel and understand.
The award comes from Science Everywhere, a nationwide challenge by the Overdeck Family Foundation and Simons Foundation.
Winners were picked from projects that strengthened students problem-solving skills and increased engagement in the sciences and could be repeated at other schools.
"Having a $5000 credit will get allow me to get even more hands-on things into my students' hands and increase their learning," Scheet said. "I'll also have the opportunity to help other teachers get these materials in their classroom."
Besides the four others who also get $5,000, five runners-up received $1,000.
