Post office asks community to clear snow, ice from curbs, walkways
OMAHA, Neb. —
Bad winter weather can be difficult to walk and drive through, but if your postal carrier can't get to your door, you may not get your mail.
On average, a letter carrier will make almost 600 deliveries a day!
But if the path is blocked or too icy, you may not get your mail that day.
That's why the post office is asking that customers clear snow and ice from curbside mailboxes, walkways and steps.
"We do a really good job at getting through most anything but when it becomes a safety issue, it's really hard for us to deliver mail if we're hurt," letter carrier Gary Fletcher said.
If a carrier can't get to your mailbox, he or she will hold onto your mail for a short while until it can be delivered.
